Standard:

This course teaches the basics of caring for and teaching infants and toddlers.  Students learn about meeting the needs of babies through Investigative Project Work. 

Course Objectives:

To explain appropriate care for infants and toddlers.

To investigate the types of child care programs available for infants and toddlers.

To define & evaluate appropriate activities for infants and toddlers.

Standard:

This course teaches the basics of health and safety for infants and toddlers.  Students learn about the health and safety needs of babies through Investigative Project Work. 

Course Objectives:

To identify causes of illnesses and methods of prevention.

To explain the health and safety measures required by DSS in child care centers.

To demonstrate knowledge of and skills for CPR and First Aid for infants, children and adults.

To practice professional skills needed for early childhood careers.

To practice job seeking skills.

This course teaches the basics of caring for and teaching preschoolers.  Students learn about meeting the needs and planning activities for children.  Through Investigative Project Work, students learn about appropriate learning environments for children. 

Course Objectives:

To identify the domains of growth and development.

To plan and guide activities for preschoolers.

To investigate the types of child care programs available for preschoolers.

To analyze learning environments for young children.

Syllabus

Standard:

This course teaches the basics of health and safety for preschoolers.  Children’s literacy is promoted through a variety of activities with children’s books.  Investigative Project Work helps students learn about community resources for family crises.  

Course Objectives:

To identify causes and prevention of blood borne pathogens in child care centers.

To plan and use various ways to promote language skills in children.

To identify agencies that help families with various problems.

To demonstrate knowledge of and skills for CPR and First Aid for infants, children and adults.
