This course prepares students for employment in cosmetology and includes classroom
instruction and practical experience in hair styling hair, setting, permanent and waving,
care of skin and nails. A total of 1,500 hours of theory, related subjects and laboratory
practice is required for graduation from this program. High school course, which will be
accepted as, related subjects to meet the 1,500 hours requirements are English, History,
Psychology, Home Economics, Biology, and Mathematics. Licensing requirements include
health certificate and an examination in theory and practical applications given by the
South Carolina State Board of Cosmetic Examiners. Students completing this two-year
program are eligible to take the examination for registered cosmetologist's license.
