In
South Carolina, all children are required to attend a
public or private school from age five until their 17th
birthday under the SC State Compulsory School Attendance
Law.
The school year consists of 180 days. To receive credit,
students must attend at least 170 days of each 180-day
year course, as well as meet all minimum requirements
for each course.
Students are counted present only when they are in
school, on homebound instruction, or present at an
activity authorized by the school principal. Absences in
excess of ten may cause the student to lose credit for
the year. See How Many Days Must My Child Attend School
for more information.
NOTES REQUIRED FROM PARENT OR GUARDIAN
The school requires notes from parents or guardians
for explanation of the following:
• Absence/Tardiness/Early Dismissal
• Permission to go home with another student (car or
bus)
• Request to be excused from recess
• Reply to notes from the teacher or principal
• Field trips
• School Withdrawal
• School requires written notice for a
transportation change. Phone calls to change
transportation can not be accepted.
TARDINESS
The school day begins at 7:50. After breakfast
students report to the classroom for the start of
the fitness video to get us moving and ready for the
school day. Instruction begins promptly at
8:00 am. Please have your child on campus no
later than 7:45 to ensure that he or she is on time
each day. Punctuality is a quality of good
citizenship. When tardy, a parent must accompany the
child to the office. When a student is tardy 5
times, parents will be contacted by the school,
either by phone, conference, or mail. If the problem
continues, the matter will be referred to the
Department of Social Services as educational
neglect. Any student who has more than 5 tardies
will forfeit eligibility for a perfect attendance
award at the end of the year. The only exceptions to
this policy are those that have been medically
excused.
