National
reports from the major networks have made us aware of an outbreak of
staph infections in Virginia and other states. The infection has
been attributed to Methicillin
Resistant Staphylococcus aureas (MRSA) which is a very
virulent infection most often found in hospitals among those who
have a weakened immune system. The infection is resistant to most
antibiotics and often is life threatening.
The good news is that it is preventable by taking very basic
precautions. Information is provided on MRSA in hopes that it will
assist you in preventing staph infections. If you desire additional
information, links are provided that will take you to websites that
provide even more information. Greer High School follows
recommendations for cleaning and disinfecting that would kill all
forms of infection. I hope this information is helpful as we work
together for the safety of our youth.
Please refer to this
link if you want more information
on MRSA.
