The sports and activity programs in Greenville County are supported at an approximate cost of only one percent of the overall school district's budget. Indeed, high school activity programs are
one of the best bargains around. It is in these vital programs—sports, music, speech, drama, debate—where young people learn important lifelong lessons. These extracurricular activities have three areas of benefits for young people:
- Activities Support the Academic Mission of Schools.
- Activities are Inherently Educational.
- Activities Foster Success in Later Life.

Injury Prevention Exercise Initiative
The Greenville County Schools, in cooperation with the Greenville Hospital System, Steadman Hawkins Clinic of the Carolinas, ProAxis Therapy, and Acceleration Sports Institute, have instituted a series of exercises that are designed to compensate for weaknesses of specific areas in flexibility, balance and core strength—where such weaknesses have been proven to lead to higher incidences of injury in athletes. The exercises have been designed by the orthopedic doctors, physical therapists, and exercise specialists in the above organizations and in conjunction with the Sports Sciences Department at the University of North Carolina. The expectation is that all athletic coaches and teams in the Greenville County Schools incorporate these exercises in their daily warm-up routines before practices and games. We strongly encourage all athletes to make these exercises a part of their regular routine before any physical activity. The link above will allow you to see an introductory video and a demonstration of each of the exercises that are integral to this injury prevention program. Injury Prevention Exercise Initiative
