Crestview Odyssey of the Mind Team honored by S.C House of Representatives

Crestview Odyssey of the Mind Team honored by SC House of RepresentativesIn recognition of their achievements, Crestview Elementary’s Odyssey of the Mind team received a House Resolution from the S.C House of Representatives at the State House. Representative Dennis Moss of Gaffney, along the House members representing Greenville County, invited the team onto the floor of the House.

Representative Moss detailed the team’s achievements and presented them with framed copy of the resolution. In his remarks, Mr. Moss expressed that this team not only brought honor to their school and Greenville County but also to the State of South Carolina.  The resolution stated that the House honors the team members “for their exceptional creativity and problem solving skills.”

After the presentation, the team received a standing ovation from House members.  Last May, this team won the gold medal making them World Champions at the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals in Ames, Iowa. They competed against teams from all over the United States and from 20 other countries. Since the team members now attend different schools, the 2008-09 school year marked the last time this team will compete together after several successful years.  The presentation by the House marked fitting end to the team’s “Odyssey.”

Team members include Taylor Carroll (Greer Middle), Joshua Carson (Sevier Middle), Evan Kramer (Charles Town Center), Charles and Christopher Ludlow (League Academy), Ben Teal (Crestview Elementary) and coaches, Sandi Carson and Mary Ludlow. The State Director of Odyssey of the Mind, Cindy Byars, former Crestview Elementary Principal Margaret Thomason and GCS Deputy Superintendent of Schools Dr. Gigi Outz accompanied the team to Columbia.
