Sevier Middle Nurse Linda Waters Named SC School Health LPN of the Year

Sevier Middle Nurse Linda Waters Named SC School Health LPN of the YearSevier Middle School Nurse Linda Waters remains calm and supportive when providing aid to a student who has dislocated his knee or one who needs a Band-Aid. Parents describe Nurse Waters as “a blessing” and “a second mom” because she makes a tremendous effort to see that children are well during the school day.  Her love for school nursing and the students she serves is evident when you see her interact with students. These characteristics are the reasons Nurse Waters has been named the 2010 SC School Health Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) of the Year.

The SC School Health LPN of the Year Award is presented annually by the SC Department of Health and Environmental Control and the SC Department of Education to publicly recognize the outstanding contributions of a school LPN.

Mrs. Waters knows every Sevier Middle School student by name. She keeps photos of students who need emergency medications attached to their medication sheet for easy identification. A rolling cart sits next to her medicine cabinet with a personalized drawer for each of the diabetic students. She does this to help them become more independent with managing their diabetes.

Nurse Waters spends her own time and money helping maintain a clothes closet, providing school supplies, and counseling and teaching an after-school First Aid/CPR class for students.

A co-worker said, “Over the 15 years we have worked together we have seen a lot of things: broken bones, seizures, child abuse, cuts, sprains, and an emergency evacuation of the entire school to an off-site destination. Through it all, Nurse Waters handled each situation with calm preparedness and sound judgment.”

Congratulations, Nurse Linda Waters, South Carolina School Health LPN of the Year!
