Applications Considered on a First-Come, First-Served Basis
Greenville, SC – Greenville County Schools, the State leader in school choice with 8,700 students (13%) attending school on choice, is accepting requests for change in school assignment beginning Wednesday, December 2 through Friday, January 8, 2010. Space is limited and requests are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis if space is available at the requested school.
Parents wishing to enroll their child in a school other than the one assigned them should go to the requested school to complete a Change in School Assignment Request form. For re-assignment to the new A.J. Whittenberg Elementary School, parents may complete a request form at the Planning and Demographics Office at 2 Space Drive, Taylors, SC 29687. Guidelines used when reviewing requests for change in school assignment include individual grade and school facility capacity, student enrollment projections, and residential growth potential in the attendance area.
A second request for change in school assignment period will begin Wednesday, January 13, 2010.
Student assignment letters for the 2009-10 school year will be distributed to students in April. If the request is approved, the assignment letter will reflect the student’s new school. If the request is not approved, the letter will indicate the child’s home-based school. Parents with children attending school through a change in school assignment must provide transportation. School re-assignment may also affect athletic eligibility.
Change in school assignment requests must be submitted each year. Parents who wish to RENEW their child’s assignment exception will receive a renewal form that will be sent home with eligible students on Wednesday, December 2. The renewal request should be returned to the principal of the child’s current school by Tuesday, December 8. Acceptance or denial of renewal requests will be reflected in the student assignment letters distributed to students in April.
Parents wishing to enroll their child in a Magnet Academy must download and complete the application at www.gcsmagnetacademies.org. Magnet Academy programs are available for students who qualify and are accepted for the seats available. All first round applications must be received by 12:00 p.m., Friday, December 4, 2009 at the desired Magnet Academy.
