Greenville, SC – Twenty-nine Greenville County schools and four career centers have earned a total of $223,466 in cash awards recognizing high levels of academic achievement and high rates of student academic improvement through the Palmetto Gold and Silver Awards program.
Schools received general awards for overall performance based on their 2008 state report card’s absolute and improvement ratings. These ratings are determined by PACT scores for elementary and middle schools. For high schools, the ratings are based on Exit Exam results, graduation rate and percentage of students passing end-of-course tests.
The Education Accountability Act established the Palmetto Gold and Silver Awards Program to recognize and reward schools with the highest levels of student academic achievement and the fastest rates of improvement. Award criteria were developed by the South Carolina Education Oversight Committee.
