2010-11 Back to School Information

Welcome Back to School!
There have been important changes in the operation of Greenville County Schools for the 2010-11 school year. Parents are encouraged to visit the Parent section of our website for detailed information concerning Greenville County Schools.

Register Your Child for School
Children who will be five years old on or before September 1 of this year must enroll in public or private kindergarten, unless the parent or legal guardian signs a waiver. Any child who will be six years old on or before September 1 of this year must enroll in first grade.
To enroll a new student in kindergarten or first grade, a parent must present the following at registration:

  • birth certificate,
  • a properly completed immunization certificate or religious exemption certificate, and
  • proof of residence.

If a child is entering school for the first time, the parent is encouraged to register him or her before the opening day of school. To determine where your child will attend school, call INFOLine at 355-3100 or click here: Find Your School.

New School Start Times for Middle and High School

  • Middle Schools – 8:30 a.m. – 3:15 p.m.
  • High Schools – 8:45 a.m. – 3:45 p.m.

In 2010-11, middle schools and high schools will start and end the school day 15 minutes later. Middle schools will begin at 8:30 a.m. and end at 3:15 p.m. High schools will begin at 8:45 a.m. and end at 3:45 p.m. Start and end times for elementary schools will not be impacted, and bus morning pickup times will not change for any K-12 student because of the change to school start times.

Bus Transportation

Bus transportation is available to students who live 1.5 miles or farther from their school. It is very important that parents provide schools with their current home address, to or more active phone numbers, and whether the student is an AM and/or PM bus rider. If parents have questions whether your child’s information is current, please contact your child’s school.

If a parent requests bus transportation after the school year begins, parents should contact their child’s school. Every effort is made to add students as soon as possible. However, up to five days may be required to add a student to a bus route.

A parent or guardian should be present at the bus stop for both the morning pickup and afternoon drop-off if the child is in 4K, 5K or first grade. Another adult or student who is in 5th grade or above can serve as the parent’s/guardian’s designee. The parent/guardian is ultimately responsible for the safety and conduct of his/her child at the school bus stop. If a parent/guardian/designee is not present at the bus stop, the student(s) could be returned to the elementary school and school staff will contact the parent/guardian via contact information provided.
