Office of Title I Programs
Public Notice of 2012-2013 Title I Program Participation Meeting - April 26
Title I is a federally funded program designed to provide additional educational opportunities for where student needs are the greatest. Title I funds identified schools with additional opportunities to help them meet our state’s performance standards.
NCLB (No Child Left Behind) changes the federal government's role in kindergarten through grade 12 education by asking America's schools to describe their success in terms of what each student accomplishes. The act contains the President's four basic education reform principles: stronger accountability for results, increased flexibility and local control, expanded options for parents, and an emphasis on teaching methods that have been proven to work.
Parent Involvement
Parent involvement is extremely important. A strong connection between parents and the school is a key element for student success. No Child Left Behind requires schools to allocate Title I funds to support parent involvement. These funds are used for, but not limited to, parent workshops and trainings and opportunities for active parent participation.
As a parent of a student enrolled at a Title I school, you have the right to know the professional qualifications of your child’s teachers and assistants. Federal law allows you to ask for the following information and requires our district to give you this information in a timely manner:
- Is the teacher certified to teach the subjects and/or grad levels the teacher is teaching?
- Is the teacher’s certificate a waiver or substandard certificate?
- What are the teacher’s academic major and graduate degrees?
- What is the teacher’s certification area?
