Two applications are required: one for a teaching license or certificate and one for employment.
Step 1: Apply for Certification

(July 1, 2008- The South Carolina State Department of Education began a new procedure for Electronic Fingerprinting. The application packet is available with fingerprinting information at the service center in the Central Office. The fingerprint card cannot be downloaded from the SDE's Web site.)
Step 2: Application for Employment- District
- Apply online - Online Job Application
- With the online Job application, submit the Online References- supervisors only.
- Have two (2) confidential references submitted online from your current supervisor(s) where you are employed. If you are not currently employed, send references from your immediate past supervisor(s).
- New teachers must have references from their cooperating teacher(s) and supervising professor. Only confidential college placement files not more than two (2) years old are accepted.
- Former district employees must get a reference from your last district supervisor.
Step 3: Seeking Employment Opportunities
Timeline For Teacher EmploymentContact principals at schools with vacancies. District interviews will be conducted by principals or at the district office and placed with your application. All references and transcripts must be submitted before you can be considered for a position. However, they do not have to be submitted prior to interviewing.
Step 4: Finalizing Employment
Once the principal has completed a Recommendation for Employment Form and Human Resources has approved the request, you will be called to attend a meeting to sign your contact. Please follow the instructions on the New Hire Forms Check List and bring all required paperwork to this sign up meeting.
Submit these documents to the district only when you are employed.
- Official transcripts - Send a copy of your final transcript(s) including all degrees obtained. Please send after degrees are conferred.
- Test Scores - Send a copy of any Praxis II/NTE or state required scores.
- Copy of your valid Educator certificate
