ETS is responsible for providing Internet connectivity to over 100 district locations located throughout Greenville County. The districts wide area network provides this connectivity. Internet traffic from each location is routed through the District Office equipment giving ETS the ability to centrally manage that data.
In compliance with State, Federal and district requirements all Internet access for Students and employees of Greenville County Schools is filtered for content. A file server located at the District Office provides this filtering utilizing a software product called Cyber Patrol.
The subscription to the Cyber Patrol service provides the District with up to date content filtering. As updated lists become available from Cyber Patrol the list are automatically installed on the districts system thereby giving the district the most current content list as possible.
In addition to the standard sites that are filtered by the Cyber Patrol service the district also has the ability to block and unblock sites, as it deems necessary.
To determine which additional sites should be blocked or unblocked the district has formed a Web panel currently made up of sixteen volunteers who are either district employees or other members of the community with a valid interest in the District. When a request is made to block or unblock a site the Web panel reviews the site and a decision to block or unblock is reached based on a consensus of the group.
If you would like to request that the Web panel evaluate a particular Web site, please submit a request on Infoweb from the ETS page.
