Leadership

The District is guided in overall policy and plans by an elected Board of Trustees. The mission of the Board is to ensure excellence in the governance of a quality educational program by analyzing needs, establishing policies, allocating resources, and monitoring progress.

Implementing these plans and policies is the District Superintendent  who leads the staff that makes up the District Office.

Education Plan

The District has adopted an Strategic Education Plan with this purpose:

With the Education Plan as our focus, we are working toward an accountability system that will fold together all of our planning and paperwork tasks into one, unified effort. It is a clear overview of the “whole-school improvement” initiative that began with the introduction of Instructional Coaches in middle schools this year. The initiative puts great emphasis on a common set of school improvement activities and a new direction for professional development support which is more site-based and more directly related to the needs of teachers.

National AccreditationDistrict Accreditation

Greenville County Schools has been awarded National Accreditation from the AdvancED Accreditation Commission, recognizing the school system as a high quality school district and granting full accreditation to the school district and all of its schools.

“Accreditation as conferred by the AdvancED Accreditation Commission provides national and international recognition of the high quality of our schools, school board, and school district,” said Superintendent Dr. Phinnize J. Fisher.  “To receive district-wide accreditation means that all facets of a school district are working in concert to support student learning and to meet the needs of students. Our efforts to attain district-wide accreditation also demonstrate to our community our ongoing commitment to excellence, our openness to external review and feedback, and our desire to continuously improve to support the achievements of our 69,000-plus students.”

AdvancED has developed a comprehensive process through which quality school districts can receive national accreditation.  The accreditation process recognizes that increasing student achievement involves more than improving instruction.  It is the result of how well all parts of the education system - district, school, classroom - work together to meet the needs of students.  Accreditation is for a five-year term with regular reporting of progress.

As part of the initial phase of implementation, the District is sharing the Quality Assurance Review Team's findings with employees and the community. Click HERE for a summary of the findings.

Student Behavior Code

Education is too important to be the sole responsibility of the schools. The success of school discipline depends upon a collaborative effort among home, school and community. By working together we can achieve the goals we all want - safe, orderly schools and a quality education for your child.

The Student Behavior Code has been developed to provide parents and students with expectations for student conduct. Please be advised that schools may issue additional guidelines for behavior.  Please read this behavior code and discuss it with your child. (Spanish Version)

Rules for Distribution of Flyers at School by External Groups

The new distribution rules have three major objectives: (1) preserve the authority of individual schools to decide whether to distribute any outside materials, (2) ensure that religious organizations are not discriminated against, and (3) protect classroom time from unnecessary interruptions by prohibiting external organizations from having access to students during class time.
