What is CAN?

Change Attitudes Now, or CAN, is an incentive-based rewards program, which recognizes and reinforces positive choices among community youth. Students sign a pledge to remain drug and alcohol free, and in return they have access to all benefits provided by the program.

Students also receive benefits that include: discounts at community businesses, scholarships, activity sponsorships, and free admission to sponsored CAN events.  Our CAN club will also implement a Role Model Trading Card project which facilitates healthy interaction between highly successful high school students and highly impressionable elementary students.

Through the use of positive peer pressure, CAN promotes a culture of positive choices and active lifestyle.

Why CAN at Greenbrier?

Studies show that youth substance and alcohol abuse cut across all ethnic, geographic, and socioeconomic lines. Youth today experience pressure to use alcohol, tobacco, and illegal drugs at increasingly early ages. In fact, in the 2002 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, adolescents ages 12 to 17 named drugs – along with social and academic pressures – as the most important problem they face.

By supporting Greenbrier CAN, our SIC, other parents, school staff, and community are helping to ensure our children reach their fullest potential and grow up happy, healthy, and drug free.
