Registration for Rising 6th Graders

Online course registration will begin in February, 2008 for students who will enter grades 6 through 12 in 2008-2009.

The process, known as Student Registration System (SRS), was implemented in 2004.  SRS allows parents and students to request elective courses (related arts classes) for the next school year from home via the Internet. Families who do not have access to the Internet will be given opportunities to use school computers to register online.

Using SRS will ensure that parents have the opportunity to assist their child in requesting elective courses and will allow school counselors and teachers more time for meetings with parents and students to discuss course content and placement issues.  Parents and students should understand that requesting a course through SRS does not guarantee that the student is placed in the course the next school year.  Final placement in a course is dependent upon enrollment, scheduling feasibility, and teacher allocation.

Before the registration process begins in February, schools will have login information and a step-by-step guide for parents to access SRS from home. Schools will also post the course catalog on the school website.

Parents without Internet access at home will receive a printed copy of the course catalog.

Registration Deadlines for 2008-2009 School Year

  • February 18 – 29, 2008 - Open Window for Rising 6th through 8th graders to select electives (2008-2009)

Poetry Contest

Get those creative juices flowing—it’s time for a poetry contest. February is Black History Month and Presidents Day.  Help us celebrate by entering our school-wide poetry contest. This year’s topic is “Heroes.”  Any Ellen Woodside student can enter the competition simply by submitting an original poem about their hero or heroes in general. (Only one poem per child, please.) The poem may be of any length and in any style. Each poem must include student’s name, homeroom teacher, grade, and a title. All entries must be completed by March 3, 2008.  Entries will be judged for their originality, creativity, and artistic quality. Winning poems in each category (K5, 1ST, 2ND, 3RD, 4TH & 5TH) will be announced on the morning news and prizes will be awarded.
