Eastside Makes the News
Eastside is ranked 8th in South Carolina (out of 251) and 791st in the Nation (out of over 27,000) on the Washington Post's Most Challenging High Schools List.  According to the Washington Post, the ranking is used to identify high schools that are currently doing the best job of preparing students for college-level work.

Lets Put an Stop to Brain Drain!
The Governor's School for Science & Mathematics has three awesome STEM-focused camps taking place this summer for rising 7th-10th graders. From pre-med and engineering to mobile apps and astrophysics, there is something for everyone. Encourage your students and their parents to check them out at !

Rising 7th & 8th Graders:iTEAMS camp is a four-day experience being offered in 10 countries across the state. Students will create mobile apps, video games or interactive objects using the latest technologies. Locations include: Beaufort, Berkeley, Dorchester, Greenville, Greenwood, Horry, Lexington, Spartanburg, York and Richland countries.

Rising 9th Graders:
New this year, CREATEng is a one-of-a-kind, four-day, immersion into engineering and design-based thinking. Working in teams, students will engage in a problem-based curriculum where they apply principles of engineering design to solve daily challenges. Locations in the Upstate and Lowcountry.
Cost: $250, financial aid is available.

GoSciTech is GSSM's annual residential summer camp offering unmatched opportunities to explore science, technology, engineering and math in an interactive environment. With 27 different courses to select from, over four different weeks, the possibilities are endless!

Virtual Summer School
Students interested in taking virtual school classes this summer need to talk to their Guidance Counselor by May 12.  Online student registration for virtual school classes this summer opens May 19.

Greenville Tech Scholarships
Attention seniors planning on attending Greenville Tech in the Fall!  Scholarships are available for students interested in majoring in Technologies & Manufacturing and/or Machine Tool Technology.  Scholarships are also available for students who have completed the Bridges to a Brighter Future Program at Furman University.  Information can be found at  Application deadline is May 1.

EHS would like to give a BIG Thank You to many of our local businesses for supporting the new Rewarding Academic Achievement (RAA!) An Evening With Shakespeare
Eastside Drama’s Spring Production, An Evening With Shakespeare, is set for Thursday, April 24 at 7 pm in the auditorium. Tickets are $5 at the door. This narrated Showcase of scenes from Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, Julius Caesar, Hamlet, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream, was written by Eastside’s own Christopher Chamness and features principal Mike Thorne as Julius Caesar and English teacher Jonathan Dorn as Marc Antony.

GE Machinist Apprentice Program Recruitment
GE is kicking off their 2014 Machinist Apprentice Program recruitment! This is an incredible opportunity for students wishing to pursue a career in Machine Tool Technology. Students have the opportunity to have school paid for and gain over 2000 hours of on-the-job training.  The Machinist Apprentice Program is a 2-year program.  Students enroll at Greenville Technical College and tuition, books, and fees paid for by GE. Apprentices are also paid for on-the-job training at GE.  Apply at Deadline is May 5.
