Congratulations Coach Ed Boehmke Eastside Teacher of the Year 09/10
"Ed came to Eastside when he graduated from Furman. He has taught science at Eastside for 31 years... in fact, he has taught in room 216 for all 31 years! (He got a new building last year, but not a new room number!) Many students have said to me that Coach Boehmke makes physical science fun and interesting. He comes to school early and stays late to give extra help to students. He also coaches Boys' and Girls' Cross Country and Track & Field. He is one coach who works out with his students. They love and respect him for it. He also spends a lot of time outside of school with them. They eat dinner together often and he takes them to an inspirational movie each year. He is always here, even on Sundays! If he is not in his classroom, he is working in the concession stand, or he is on one of the athletic fields. He takes care of the Eastside properties and he has been vital in the relocation and renovation and rebuilding of Eastside High School. You can always hear him coming down the hall because he is always whistling or singing. He is always happy to help anyone at anytime with anything, even though he is always so busy. "

Eagle News
Eastside softball coach says hard work, fun go together
New Eastside High softball coach Jeff McLaughlin has brought a simple philosophy to the Eagles this season. "I expect them to work hard in practice, but we still manage to have our fair share of fun," McLaughlin said. McLaughlin, a self-described players' coach who spent the last five years as an assistant at North Greenville University, has embraced his new challenge but concedes the biggest adjustment so far has been making coaching decisions himself." The goal I set for this team is to make the playoffs. That's something they haven't done in five years here," McLaughlin said. The Eagles would have to finish at least fourth in the six-team Peach Blossom Region AAA." I think we're going to be competitive," McLaughlin said. "If we can get the ball to bounce our way a couple of times, we'll be able to make it." Returning this year is shortstop Nicole Salado, who led the team in doubles and RBIs last season while batting .395. Versatile senior Brittany Brewer will start at second baseman and platoon at catcher, outfield and third base. Returning seniors Danielle Robinson and Kristen Baker will start in left field and catcher, respectively. Jessica Keener, who hit .300 last season and led the team in walks, will play first base and fill out the middle of the lineup. On the mound will be League Academy eighth-grader Kira Coker, who the Eagles hope will improve their pitching over last season, where all pitchers carried ERAs over 8.00. "For an eighth-grader, she's well ahead of where she should be," McLaughlin said. "She's ready for the challenge. She's a competitor."
