2003 Caldecott Award Winner at Open Book/4:00 - 6:00 p.m.
The 2003 Caldecott Winner, Mr. Eric Rohmann, will be in Greenville Thursday,
October 2 to sign his new book, My Friend Rabbit. The preschool book is written
and illustrated by the author. This is the first time a Caldecott Winner has
ever visited Greenville County The Caldecott Medal was named in honor of
nineteenth-century English illustrator Randolph Caldecott. It is awarded
annually by the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the
American Library Association, to the artist of the most distinguished American
picture book for children. A review of Mr. Rohmann's book can be found on the
Caldecott website. District teachers who purchase the book will receive a

Sara Collins Elementary Hosts "Freaky Friday" (Rain or Shine)/3:30 -
7:30 p.m.
The school's annual Freaky Friday event will be located at Greenville Tech this
year due to construction at the school site. This year's attractions include
carnival rides, confetti eggs, MASH tent, goodie booth, the Freak Boutique,
toddler tent, Freaky Fishing, face painting, pizza supper, a silent auction, and

Testing Workshop/9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m./Mauldin High School
The Mauldin High guidance office will host its annual College Admissions Testing
workshop. Juniors and seniors may register for the workshop. A $50 registration
fee will cover a study skills packet and sample test questions. Call the
