Hurricane Relief Efforts
Berea High
Service learning class is collecting money.
Blue Ridge Middle and Northwest Middle
These two schools are coordinating a challenge between the schools to raise
funds for the Red Cross. They will collect funds through Friday, September 9.
Bryson Elementary
Disaster relief donations will be collected September 6 -12. A $5 donation from
a teacher will give them an extra “casual dress” day on Friday, September 9.
Donaldson Career Center
Collecting money to give a certified check to Red Cross.
Cherrydale Elementary
Raising funds for a parish in New Orleans. They are researching a school with
similar demographics. Calling it “Cherrydale’s Pennies for our Friends in New
Orleans.”
Bryson Elementary
Possibly “Wave of Hope II” through the Red Cross – details still being worked
out.
Blue Ridge High
BRHS Air Force Junior ROTC cadets will be stationed inside the gate at the
stadium on Friday night to collect contributions for the hurricane relief
efforts of the Red Cross. The Student Council and other groups are making plans
to give assistance in a blood drive.
Fountain Inn Elementary
The school will conduct a fund drive through Friday, September 9, with funds
being donated to the Red Cross.
Greer High
The Service Learning Class and Student Council will coordinate donations to the
Red Cross and other support groups. They will collect at the game next Friday
(September 9).
Hillcrest High
The Student Council will conduct a fundraiser from September 12-15 during the
school day. The proceeds will go to the Red Cross.
Mauldin Elementary
The school has two teachers with close family ties to Louisiana. Both of them
say that all of their families are accounted for and safe. They are
coordinating the school’s effort with the help of parents.
Mauldin Middle
Collecting funds and donating them to the Red Cross.
Oakview Elementary
“Rush of Relief” - Collecting funds September 6-9 to donate to the Red Cross.
Plain Elementary
The PTA is coordinating “Dollars for Disaster Relief” and will donate funds to
the American Red Cross.
Riverside Middle
The Beta Club will organize a donation drive and will donate the funds to Red
Cross.
Taylors Elementary
“Coins for a Cause” – Collecting for the Red Cross with the PTA. Collection jars
in classrooms and throughout the building. Will collect at the school’s PTA Open
House.
Woodmont High
Collecting money in first period classes and at football games (donated to Red
Cross through the News Channel 7 Red Cross Relief Fund)

Alexander Elementary
The school will conduct a “Loose Change” benefit, coordinated through the PTA.
Funds will be donated to the Red Cross.
Hughes Academy
Will collect bottled water and canned goods for the Red Cross.
Riverside Middle
Riverside’s Beta Club will be conducting the “Bill”ding Fundraiser. They will be
collecting bills and checks made out to the Red Cross. They will collect “bills”
from September 6-16. Prizes will be awarded to the entire school based on the
amount raised.
Robert E. Cashion Elementary
“Cashion Coins for the Coast” – students are bringing in coins from September 6
through 16 to donate to the Red Cross.
Simpsonville Elementary
Collecting money for the Red Cross.
Summit Drive Elementary
The school is collecting toiletries, household supplies, baby items, and other
necessities from September 2 – 9 to donate to an agency.
Woodland Elementary
Will be collecting money for the Red Cross.

Augusta Circle Elementary
Augusta Circle students will be collecting money for the Red Cross the week of
September 12-16.
Bethel Elementary
The school will be collecting donations for the American Red Cross through
Wednesday, September 14.
Brushy Creek Elementary
Students will be collecting money for the Red Cross.
Carolina High School and Academy
The National Honor Society of Carolina High School and Academy will meet with a
representative from the Red Cross to discuss a project. They hope to conduct a
monetary relief drive at the school.
Duncan Chapel Elementary
Duncan Dollars for Disaster Relief – Duncan Chapel will collect dollars during
the month of September to give to the Red Cross. The Student Council will
continue fund raising efforts as an ongoing project this year.
Paris Elementary
The Student Council and PTA are placing two large empty water cooler bottles in
the lobby and encouraging students to bring coins and dollars to stuff into the
bottles. They will collect money from September 6 – 17.
Mitchell Road Elementary
The school is collecting money for the Red Cross. One student sold Kool-Aid this
past weekend and raised $247 for hurricane victims.
Bethel Elementary
From September 7-14 students will collect money for the Red Cross. They will
also collect toothpaste, toothbrushes, hand sanitizer, deodorant, shampoo, and
liquid soap.
Berea Middle
Students are raising money with proceeds going to the Red Cross. If a student
donates at least 50 cents, he or she is given Mardi Gras beads.

Greenview Elementary
The fourth graders are collecting canned goods to be donated. The entire school
will be collecting toiletries to be placed in bags and given to the Salvation
Army. These will be given to evacuees at the Palmetto Expo Center.
Greenbrier Elementary
The school will conduct a “Greenbrier Goes for the Green” campaign from
Thursday, September 8 through Friday, September 16.
Mauldin High
The school is raising money to help the victims. They will conduct a fund drive
this week and continue their efforts for ongoing relief.
Mitchell Road Elementary
The school is collecting money for the Red Cross. One student had a Kool-Aid
stand over the weekend and raised $247.
Monaview Elementary
The fifth grade students are collecting money by grade level in the cafeteria.
The teachers who donate to the relief fund will be allowed to wear jeans on
Friday.
Wade Hampton High
The school will donate 5% of the total collected during Eastside Week, the
annual Spirit Week competition. The funds will be combined with the 5% collected
by Eastside High School during their competition. The funds will be collectively
given for hurricane relief.
Welcome Elementary
The school will collect diapers, baby wipes, crayons, art paper, playing cards (Uno,
Go Fish, Old Maid) for the victims at the Palmetto Expo Center.

Beck Academy
Beck Academy IB World School has adopted Siwell Middle IB World School in
Jackson, Mississippi. Students are asked to donate new items including book
bags, notebooks. Paper, pencils, rulers, toiletry items, socks, shoes and
underwear, along with identified clothing items. The items will be delivered to
Siwell Middle School on Friday, September 23.
Crestview Elementary
Students and families are providing child victims with teddy bears and other
stuffed animals. They will be delivered to children located at the Palmetto
Exposition Center.
Enoree Career Center
Classes have been collecting money for Hurricane Katrina relief and plan to
donate it to the Red Cross.
Hollis Academy
Students at Hollis Academy donated a dollar to wear a hat in support of the
Hurricane Katrina victims, raising a total of $800.65. All proceeds will go to
the Greenville Red Cross. The school will also donate 1,000 sets of earplugs for
evacuees.
Mauldin Middle
The Junior Beta Club has been collecting food items and money to help the
victims. To date, they have collected $1,775.32.
Oakview Elementary
Students raised more than $20,000 during the “Rush for Relief” fundraising
drive. The money will be donated to the Red Cross.
Pelham Road Elementary
The Student Council spearheaded a drive for toiletry articles and baby items.
More than 50 boxes were filled.
Travelers Rest High
The TRHS Student Council is leading the fundraising effort to benefit those
devastated by Hurricane Katrina. The school is selling “Devildog Dollars” to
collect funds, and will have a barbeque cookout, sponsored by the FFA to raise
money at the TR vs. Berea football game.
Washington Center
Washington Center students, families and staff are conducting a drive to collect
items needed by evacuees, workers and pets. Mrs. Winburn's class took the
message to each classroom using voice output communication enhanced by photos of
those in need. Items ranging from art supplies to wallets are being collected
for people affected. Misplaced pets are being furnished items ranging from food
to flea powder. Items will be delivered to the Expo Center and ASPCA Friday,
September 16.

Mauldin High
The school has raised more than $6,600 to donate to Red Cross and Salvation
Army. The ESL program plans to raise funds from September 19 – 23 by having a
bake sale.
Ellen Woodside Elementary
Donations will be collected through the month of October and include flip flops
(all sizes), socks, toothbrushes, toothpaste, hairbrushes, combs, Q-tips, soap,
lotion, children’s books, stuffed animals, toys, paper, crayons, playing cards,
paper towels, individually wrapped snacks, water bottles, T-shirts, baby food,
bottles, diapers, rattles, and formula. Students have written letters to
families affected by the hurricane and will donate one item to the family. The
Ellen Woodside Chapter of the National Jr. Beta club will be selling awareness
bracelets for the cause. Presales have begun, and the club is hoping to exceed
their goal of $1,000 in proceeds for Hurricane victims.
Greenville Middle
Greenville Middle conducted a school-wide donation drive last week for the
Salvation Army. Students raised $3,688 for the Salvation Army.
Hughes Academy
One family has donated a POD storage unit which Hughes students expect to fill
by Friday, September 16. Homerooms are competing to bring in the most items,
including non-perishable food, bottled water, diapers, baby wipes, toiletries,
and personal care items, as well as books and toys for children. The public may
donate items at the school.
Golden Strip Career Center
The relief effort is called “Blessings for the Bayou” and includes contributions
through a hot dog sale and other activities.

Brushy Creek Elementary
Brushy Creek students donated household items to fill 5 gallon buckets along
with personal items to fill health kits. From all of the items donated, the
students filled 39 buckets, and 45 health kits. The green 5 gallon buckets were
donated by Lee Road UMC. The buckets and health kits were picked up Friday
afternoon by Asbury UMC and taken to UMCOR to be processed and delivered to the
gulf coast this week. Students also raised over $2000 for relief efforts.
Buena Vista Elementary
Buena Vista students participated in 'Bucks for the Bayou". Students brought in
money to be donated to the Red Cross. Our students raised $1, 784 in a one week
period.
Students are also involved in a "Kids Helping Kids" Campaign. A local business
donated back packs and the students are filling them with school supplies for
the students at the Palmetto Expo Center who were evacuated from their homes.
Chandler Creek Elementary
Students collected goods for evacuees of Hurricane Katrina who are being housed
at the Palmetto Expo Center.
Greenville Group Home (Greenville High teacher)
Greenville Group Home is a residential high management group home for boys that
are on homebound status and are required to do 25 hours of community service. As
a community service project, 7 of our students selected a child of a specific
age that was placed at the Palmetto Exposition Center as a result of Hurricane
Katrina. Each student made a personalized card using their "Publisher" skills
that they have been learning this year and filled up a gift bag with items
appropriate for the age child they selected along with the card.
Hollis Academy
Hollis students donated a dollar to wear a hat in support of hurricane victims.
They collected more than $800, with the proceeds going to the Greenville Red
Cross.
Hughes Middle Academy
The newly-formed seventh grade Junior Beta Club raised over $540 from the
student body for hurricane relief efforts. A parent-donated POD storage unit is
full of donations from Hughes students. Donated will be directed to evacuees all
over the nation.
Northwood Middle
Students collected $3,200 for the American Red Cross through a Penny Sabotage.
