VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

Position — Pool for Elementary School Assistant Principals

Location — Greenville County Schools

Posting Date — January 12, 2012

Beginning of Salary Range — $53,631

Length of Service10 months (200 days)   

Major Responsibilities:

(1) Assume responsibility, under the guidance of the Superintendent, for the operation of the school in the absence of the principal; (2) make classroom visits and observations and hold follow-up conferences with teachers; understandings gained through these experiences should place him in a position to make suggestions for improving classroom procedures where the need arises; (3) confer with students and, as required, with parents, regarding achievement, growth, discipline, extra-curricular activities, and other matters believed to be related to the success of the students; (4) counsel with students; (5) prepare referrals, in cooperation with counselors, for student personnel services (e.g., health, special services, suspensions), (6) supervise extracurricular activities; (7) inspect the buildings and grounds; (8) supervise the custodial staff; (9) prepare administrative bulletins; (10) draft budgetary needs; (11) prepare special reports to the principal; (12) check pupil attendance; (13) supervise inventory and requisition of textbooks; (14) make recommendations concerning school equipment; (15) process requisitions for supplies and equipment; (16) supervise the operation of school buses and drivers; (17) hold parental conferences as required regarding such activities as: PTA, scholarship drives, and public performances; (18) represent the school in community functions when requested by the principal; (19) assist with building security; (20) other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.

Qualifications:

(1) Master’s degree in related field; (2) hold, or is eligible to receive, a valid South Carolina elementary or secondary principal’s certificate prior to the 2012-2013 school year; (3) at least three years of successful teaching experience; (4) completion of ADEPT/PAS-T evaluator training by August 2012; (5) demonstrated leadership abilities; (6) effective communication skills at all levels; (7) understanding of effective teaching strategies; (8) proficient in the use of technology; and (9) willingness to work flexible hours.
