Stone, Hillcrest MS, Mauldin HS Websites Earn Distinction of “Best of the Web - 2003”

Best of the Web - 2003GREENVILLE, SC – Websites for Stone Academy of Communication Arts, Hillcrest Middle, and Mauldin High have been named “Best of the Web - 2003” by School Superintendent Dr. William E. Harner.

Each school’s website was evaluated using the District’s School Website Evaluation self-assessment tool. Each site was evaluated by a team of webmasters in the areas of site content, design, navigation, timeliness, parent information, school calendar, staff directory, examples of student work, and following legal guidelines.

Last spring, about 30 schools earned gold, silver, or bronze “Webmaster’s Choice” awards. These schools’ sites were then evaluated for the overall “Best of the Web - 2003” honor.

Superintendent Dr. Harner said, “The variety of student arts and activities and the clear, clean design made a virtual trip to Stone Academy pure pleasure!” Also, “No visitor to the Hillcrest Middle site could doubt that these students are actively involved in their studies – and loving it!” Regarding the Mauldin High site, he stated, “The Mauldin Mavericks have mastered the art of providing a great deal of important information in an interesting, quick, and easy-to-read style.”

Greenville County Schools webmaster John Woggon added, “Our visitor numbers continue to climb dramatically. Last year, we were averaging 150,000 web visits per month. That number has more than doubled this year. I’m convinced the reason for the substantial increase in site visits is the tremendous increase in student content. These three winning sites are leaders in providing good, solid examples of the best of our student achievement.”

Congratulations to Stone Academy webmaster Charlie Slate; Hillcrest Middle webmaster Gregg Davis; and Mauldin High webmaster Jonathan Cooper.
