Parent Power Schedule for 2004-2005 School Year

Informational meeting that will include a speaker from Greenville Technical College to discuss the upcoming field trip.  Other speakers will include:  Sherri Gentry who will provide important health information for parents and their children; Dayle Allen and Cliff Walker who will discuss The Greenville Mental Health Center and the programs that will be offered at the school;  Patti Clerc will discuss the guidance program at Cherrydale and what services she can provide for parents and children; Michelle Calwile will discuss the Title I program and her position at Cherrydale;  Ken Brooks will discuss the role he plays as Title I Social Worker and the services he can provide.  A Parent survey will be conducted to gather input on what information parents would like to receive at upcoming Parent Power meetings as well what meeting in the past were most beneficial.

October 13, 2004:  Greenville Technical College
Parent will take a field trip to Greenville Technical College to receive information on the higher educational programs available to them.  The parents will receive a tour of the facility and learn about the job skill programs, GED programs, college degrees offered, financial aid available, scholarships, and how to prepare now, to help their children become college graduates in the future.                                  

Click for big pictureClick for big pictureNovember 18, 2004:  Budgeting for the Holidays (Snacks)
A representative from Clemson Extension will give parents information on getting through the Holidays on a budget.  Information will also be provided on how to save for your child’s college education, how to budget money throughout the year, and how to teach your children about money at an early age.                                                         

December 16, 2004:  Stress Management through Art (snacks)
Mr. Stow will conduct an art activity that will teach parents how to use art as a way to relieve stress.  Parents will be given the tools to take home and work on the activities with their children.  Children can utilize the activities when they are feeling stress, anxiety, sadness, anger or any other emotions parents feel the art activities would be helpful.  We will also have a Christmas celebration with the parents and the children together to practice the art activities. 

February 10, 2005:  How to help your child be successful at
Ms. Kern will present information on how parents can get involved with their child’s education.  Parents will receive information on the importance of attendance, how to have a successful teacher conference, the benefits of being involved in your child’s school, how to help your child with homework, and how to build confidence and set the stage for higher educational goals.    

March 16, 2005:  Field Trip to Barnes & Noble and Hands on Academic Tools for Success
Ms. Alewine will give parents specific academic activities that they can do with their children at home.  The parents will receive all of tools they need to take home and work with their children.  The activities will include all academic levels and have the ability to build on new skills.  Ms. Alewine will review the district testing schedule and give parents some tips on how to help their children be successful test takers.

April 26, 2004:  Academic/Art/Resource Fair
Parents will hear a brief presentation from a variety of representatives about the resources available in the community.  After the presentation parents will walk through the resource booths and gather information and have an opportunity to ask questions.
