An elk is on the loose at Cone Primary/Sans Souci Intermediate. Elroy the
Elk, a character created to spread the anti-drug message "Say NO to
drugs!," treated students to a visit on Tuesday, October 28, 2003.
Members of the South Carolina Elks Association Greenville Lodge #858 and Mrs.
Gwen Keitt's class sponsored the anti-drug van and worked hard to convey the
message against drug abuse. The students were given red ribbons and a bag
containing anti-drug pamphlets, Frisbees that have the slogan "Fly Me
Away From Drugs," coloring books and candy. Mrs Keitt acted as
cheerleader and encouraged students to say "No Drugs."
The South Carolina Association has two of these anti-drug vans and is working
to establish a third one to continue carrying the "Say No" message
throughout the Upstate.
