Learning Disabilities Self-contained ClassThe Learning Disabilities Self-contained class is taught by Mrs. Connie Painter. Students study the same subjects and use the same standards as the regular classes. The only difference is that students are given more review and hands-on activities. These students have Individual Education Plans (IEP’s) that guide the instruction. Students are mainstreamed with their regular education peers into Related Arts, Science, and Social Studies. Resource ClassesThe Resource Program at Cherrydale Elementary
is a place where students can get small group and individual instruction in
their deficit areas. These students have Individual Education Plans (IEP’s)
that guide the instruction as well as implement grade level standards. Resource teachers use learning strategies
and alternative teaching methods to help students understand and master new
concepts.

The speech/language program serves student’s with articulation/phonological, language, voice, fluency and pragmatic disorders. Mass screenings are conducted each year to identify students in need of further evaluation in speech and language. Referrals are also made by classroom teachers. Three year evaluations, annual reviews and initial evaluations are also conducted throughout the year. The SLP works closely with regular education and resource teachers to promote carryover of each student’s individual needs. Students enrolled in speech meet in small groups and learn strategies to promote age appropriate articulation, language and conversational skills.
