During normal operation, the school day begins at
8:00 AM and ends at 2:30 PM. Students who arrive at school between 7:30 AM
and 7:50 AM should go directly to the cafeteria for breakfast. Students
who arrive at school late should check-in at the
office to receive a tardy slip in order to be admitted to class. Students
are tardy after 8:00 AM and will be monitored for excess tardies.
Excessive tardiness may result in parent notification, restriction from
participation in extracurricular activities, referral to school resources
or community agencies.

Cherrydale
Elementary offers preschool services for children who are four before
September 1, 2007. A birth certificate, social security card, and immunization
record must be presented upon enrollment. Numerous parent involvement
activities are also required for this program.
The school entrance age policy requires that children entering
kindergarten must be five years of age on or before September 1, 2007. All
children entering Cherrydale
Elementary for the first time
must present a certified birth certificate, social security card, and an
up-to-date immunization record.

Regular and punctual attendance is essential for the
optimum growth and development of students. South Carolina Attendance Law
supports this claim. The policy states that students may not miss more
than 10 days per year. Included in these ten days are absences for
serious illness confirmed by a doctor. In addition to the doctor’s
statement, parents are asked to send a note to school. Excessive
absenteeism may lead to a student not receiving promotion to the next
grade level. The goal of Cherrydale
Elementary is to work
with each family to ensure that children achieve overall school success.
Teachers are not authorized to
release student to parents who come to the classroom. All students taken
from the building during the regular school day must be signed out at the
school office. Whenever possible, dental and medical appointments
should be made for non-school days or after the regular school day ends.
Early dismissals will not be made after 2:00 PM. Excessive early
dismissals will warrant a conference and denial of new attendance award.
ATTENDANCE AWARDS
At the end of each school year, Cherrydale
Elementary is proud to recognize students who have made an
outstanding effort to attend school each day. Perfect Attendance is awarded to students who
have attended school every day and been on time every day. These
awards are given out for each quarter as well as for the full year.
