Our focus for the year is reading. Students are being challenged to read daily. Please have your child read to you at home to reinforce what they are learning at school. Reading is an essential tool to success for your child. We have an excellent reading program this year titled "Soar to Success." Students who are "struggling" readers are taken out of the classroom to work in a group of other fourth graders to master their reading skills. We are excited about this and hope this will contribute to better progress academically as well as socially. In math your child needs to have mastered their multiplication tables . Without this, they cannot move on to division and other major math concepts. Please make sure your child is working on these daily. A great way to practice this is using flash cards. These can be purchased at Wal-Mart or any dollar store or can be easily made with index cards by your child. A few minutes a day and a few cards a day will make a BIG difference in your child's progress with multiplication! Students are also taught that organization and social skills (manners) are important concepts that are needed to help them succeed in middle school. These are practiced daily in class. Please help your child by modeling this at home. |

Students in grades 3rd-5th will have the opportunity to participate in the S.C. Children’s Book Award program sponsored by the S.C. Association of School Librarians. In order to vote, a student must read at least three of the nominees. Students may read them independently or they may be read to them. We will be voting for the winning book in February 2012. Get an early start by reading them this summer!
