About the PrincipalMrs. Scarlet H. Black is the principal of Cherrydale Elementary School. She has been with the District for 30 years, beginning as guidance counselor at Berea, Monaview, Parker, and League Middle Schools. Her administrative career followed and was the first administrative assistant at the elementary level. During 2001-2002 school year, Mrs. Black became principal of Cone Primary School (grades K4 - 2). On March 14, 2003, she was named principal of Sans Souci Intermediate School (grades 3-5). In 2004-05, she was named the principal of Cherrydale Elementary School and guided the school through the construction of the new facility on the old Sans Souci Intermediate school site. In 2002-2003 Mrs. Black was added to the Honor Roll of School Administrators by the South Carolina Association of School Librarians. She earned this honor for her motivation to develop outstanding media center and technology programs at Cone Primary. Mrs. Black currently serves as a Senate appointee on the First Steps Board. She earned a bachelor’s degree from North Carolina Central University, a master’s degree from the University of North Carolina-Charlotte, and a master’s plus 30 from Clemson University. Mrs. Black's commitment to children is unyielding. Her motto
resonates throughout Cherrydale..."it's all about the children!" Principal's CornerI encourage each of you to become an educational role model for your children. Your children need to know you care about their future and that education is the key to that future. How can you become an educational role model? Read newsletters and other information coming from school. In 2008, Cherrydale Elementary School piloted four single-gender education classrooms at the 4th and 5th grade levels. In 2010, this pilot was expanded to third grade due to the overwhelming success of the program. In addition to the success of single-gender, Cherrydale Elementary continues to increase student achievement. For two consecutive years, Cherrydale Elementary has earned AYP (Adequate Yearly Progress) as defined by "No Child Left Behind" and significantly improved its State Report Card rating. Cherrydale is a school on the move, and we want your best
efforts in helping us achieve solid academic success. Thank you for all
you will do to make this a reality.
