The Men of Cherrydale:
Beating the Odds and Breaking the Mold

The national average of male teachers in most school districts throughout the country is around two-percent or less.  The percentages for minority male teachers are much lower.  Cherrydale Elementary School, a Title I funded school, located in Greenville, South Carolina is beating the odds and breaking the mold in both areas.  Cherrydale Elementary is well-above most school districts in finding and employing male teachers and male minority teachers.  Cherrydale Elementary currently has fifteen males on staff.  Twelve of the fifteen males have a direct impact with students and student achievement.  Fifty percent of these twelve are minority male role-models.
