C.A.T.C.H Program
Coordinated Approach to Children's Health

Cherrydale Elementary is proud to present our Fresh Fruits and Veggies Grant, the C.A.T.C.H. Program (Coordinated Approach to Children’s Health).  The Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) is a government funded program that offers and promotes free fresh fruits and vegetables to students during the school day.  This program is designed to give greater access and contact to fresh produce in order to improved the health and wellness of students.  Through this program Cherrydale Elementary will provide free fruits and vegetables to our students three days a week in their classroom.

Cherrydale Elementary School recently hosted a PTA Open-House for its 468 students and families. The theme was “Brown Bagging at Cherrydale,” which introduced the school’s Fresh Fruits and Veggies Grant, the C.A.T.C.H. Program (Coordinated Approach to Children’s Health), and bullying as it relates to childhood obesity. The school also unveiled its first Farmers’ Market to promote healthy eating and nutrition. Each family in attendance received a “brown grocery bag” that was quickly filled with a variety of leafy greens, potatoes, squash, mushrooms, corn, and raw peanuts for roasting. Parents and students also consumed fresh fruits and packaged vegetables prior to the program.
