Welcome to 4 Year Old
Kindergarten

|

Mrs. Hart's Class |
Cherrydale Elementary School is proud to have
two 4-K classes. 4-K
is a full day, needs based program for children who turn four years old
on/before September 1. All children who apply by the May 7 deadline
are screened for qualification and placed in the nearest 4-K program to
their residence. Latecomers are then placed in any remaining spots
throughout the district. 4-K is all about pre-readiness skills necessary
for Language Art and Math and about social and developmental skills necessary
for success in school. Certified teachers and assistants are trained in
the High Scope Curriculum Program and lead the children in large and small
groups each day to Plan-Do-Review. Learning Centers (House, Blocks,
Books, Art, Toys and Games, Writing, Computer and more) are the heart of the
program as children Plan what to do each day
in centers, go to the centers and Do what
they chose and then Review what they've done
as come back to the large group. Each day also includes Breakfast,
Lunch, Rest Time and Outdoor Playtime. When children complete the 4-K
program and move into the 5-K Kindergarten, they are usually much better
prepared for success with many of them reading by spring of the 5-K year.
What an opportunity!! Don't miss out on it if you have an upcoming 4-K
child! ~ Linda Linder, 4K teacher.
