The
Golden Strip Family and Child
Development Center, (GSCDC)
is an exciting partnership
between the School District of Greenville County and local
non-profit and state agencies. The Golden Strip Family and
Child Development Center is one of five CDC’s within the
county. Golden Strip CDC serves the Southeastern portion of the
county. Bus transportation is provided and based out of
the following area elementary schools: Bell’s Crossing,
Bethel, Bryson, Fountain Inn, Greenbrier, Mauldin, Oakview,
Plain, and Simpsonville Elementary Schools
What We Do:
Our aim is to identify and serve
children who would benefit most from our program. The
focus of our program is on “school readiness” and improving
literacy by exposing 4-year old kindergarten (4K) children to an
environment rich in language and print. In order to be eligible,
students must be screened and be 4 years of age by September 1st
of the school year in which they hope to attend. Screening
typically begins May 1st and continues through the
Month of May. Registration dates for screening are posted on
the
districts

The GSCDC Early Childhood and Family Learning Team:
Four-Year-Old Kindergarten (4K)
Classes are taught Monday through Friday, 8:15 – 2:15. Teachers
conduct home visits, family activities and parent meetings in
order to establish a network of support for the children. Each
classroom enrolls 20 students with two full time teachers.
Students that qualify receive additional help in Speech -
Language and/or additional Academic Support Services.
Preschool Special Education
A special education class serves children with
developmental delays. The special education teachers also serve
as a resource to the 4K teachers. Itinerant (academic support)
services are provided for children with special needs who are
enrolled in the regular 4K program.
Parents as Teachers (PAT)
“Parents as Teachers” serves families with children,
infant to 5 years of age. Families are provided with parent
education during bi-weekly home visits, workshops, regular
parent meetings, and other educational family

Family Learning/GED
“Family Learning/GED” program provides educational
activities including, adult education culminating in High School
Equivalency Diploma. Childcare is available for ages 6 weeks to

Piedmont Center for Mental Health Services (PCMHS):
PCMHS
provides individual and family counseling, various assessments
and consultative services as well counseling for children with
emotional and behavioral issues, ADHD, and depression. In
addition this agency provides consults with children, adolescent
and adult Psychiatrists as well as other Mental Health services
