Child Find is a component of Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) that requires states to identify, locate, and evaluate all children with disabilities ages three to 21 who are in need of early intervention or special education services.  Greenville County School's Child Find initiative accepts referrals from parents, community agencies, health care providers, child care programs and teachers. Child Find is a continuous process of public awareness and screening activities that locate, identify and refer children as early as possible.


Individuals who contact Child Find may have concerns about a child’s development in one or more of the following areas:

Communication Skills
Cognitive Skills
Motor Skills
 Daily Living Skills
Social/Emotional Skills
Vision
Hearing
Orthopedic Needs


Screenings are conducted every Tuesday and Friday at the
Center for Developmental Services. Parent/Guardian written consent is required at the time of screening appointment.  Approximately 13-15 children are scheduled for individual appointments. A “station” format is used and children rotate through the following screening stations as needed:

1. Developmental
2. Speech/Language
3. Hearing
4. Vision
5. OT/PT/OH



Once all Child Find screenings are complete, the parent/guardian is provided with a summary of results. These results are discussed along with any additional screening or evaluation needs.
