Development and Family Learning Center focuses on school readiness and improving
literacy by exposing 4 year old kindergarten children and adults
to an environment rich in language and print. This inviting
facility has a history of successfully serving preschool
children throughout Greenville County since 1972. Overbrook Child Development Center was designated as
Palmetto's Finest in 1995.
Four - Year - Old Kindergarten
(4K): A total of 140 children are served in
full - day 4K classes. Classes are held Monday through Friday.
Teachers also conduct home visits, family activities, and parent
meetings throughout the year. To be eligible, children must be
4 years of age by September 1 of the school year.
Preschool Special Education:
A special education class serves children with developmental
delays. The special education teacher also serves as a resource
to the 4K teachers. Itinerant services are provided for children
with special needs who are enrolled in the regular 4K program.
Parent Educators (PAT)
provide bi-monthly home visitation.
This program is available to parents of preschool special education
and 4K students with a younger sibling (birth - age 4).
The program is offered in our Child Development Centers and some
elementary schools. This program provides information on
child development, the value of a print-rich environment and
tips on how to inspire children to be great readers. The
nationally recognized Parents as Teachers curriculum is also
used. Families are invited to
parent workshops and book celebrations. For more
