Book Basket Brilliance
Mrs. Edwards wrote a grant and
received funding from Donors Choose to purchase five sets of

Roper Mountain Science Center
Chandler Creek
Elementary 2nd grade
students enjoyed a wonderful learning experience on a recent
trip to Roper Mountain Science Center. Drayton C., from
Miss Smith's class, has fun holding a beautiful corn snake.
Kindergarten and First Grade Registration
Registration for kindergarten and first
grade in Greenville County Schools will be held January 18th
- 20th, 2012. Children who will be five years old on
or before September 1st, 2012 must enroll in public or
private kindergarten, unless the parent or legal guardian
signs a waiver. Any child who will be six years old on
or before September 1st, 2012 must enroll in first grade.
Visit your Greenville County public school January 18th -
20th to register.

Hughes Academy Hands-On Science Activities
Join
us at Hughes Academy for free hands-on science activities.
These after-school activities are for current 4th and 5th
grade students and are held from 4:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.
Parents must provide transportation and snacks are provided.
Each activity will be offered twice. Choose the day that
works for you and go to the Hughes Academy website for more
information and to download a registration form at
www.greenville.k12.sc.us/hughes.

The PTA sponsored Holiday Gift Shop
starts December
6th through the 12th. Our students
will be able to shop for family and friends right here at

Get Your 2011-2012 Yearbook!
It's time to order your 2011 - 2012
Chandler Creek Champion Yearbook. The price per yearbook is $25.00
if ordered before March 2, 2012 and $30.00 after that date. Parents
will also have an opportunity to place an advertisement in
the yearbook to honor a fifth grade student. All
advertisements must be received by January 27th, 2012.
Space is limited so the January 27th deadline is only
tentative, ads will only be accepted until the space
allotted is full.

THANKSGIVING SEASON
As
we approach this Thanksgiving season, Please take a few
moments to watch a
short presentation to remember those that
will not be home for the holidays. May you all have a
wonderful Thanksgiving and enjoy yourselves with family and
friends.
Student Council
Student Council has been very impressed with the donations for the can drive! They would like to finish off the event by allowing students to wear their choice of either Clemson Tiger or South Carolina Gamecock attire Monday and Tuesday, November 21 & 22. There will be a competition to see who shows the most team pride.
Hooray for Thanksgiving
The
"Hooray for Thanksgiving" Kindergarten program was a huge
success. They gave a wonderfully entertaining performance to

Kindergarten Thanksgiving Celebration
Kindergarten
is having a special Thanksgiving Celebration on Friday
November, 18th. The Hooray for Thanksgiving Program
will begin in the Theater at 1:00pm. (downstairs
kindergarten) and 1:30pm (upstairs kindergarten).
Mayor Rick Danner Visits Chandler Creek First Graders
Our first graders are working on their
current IB Unit on Government and as part of the local
government Mayor Rick Danner came and talked about all the
responsibilities he has as the Mayor. He then read the
book " I Know A Mayor" and answered student
questions.

to create new things while on a field trip to Camp
Greenville.
Pumpkin Decorating Contest
Chandler Creek Elementary's media
center held their annual pumpkin decorating contest.
Students compete to see who can decorate a pumpkin to look
like their favorite storybook character. This year's winners
are: 1st place ~ Horton from Horton Hears a Hoo
(Derek R.), 2nd place ~ Ramona Quimby - from Beverly
Cleary series (Aliah G.), 3rd place ~ David from No
David (Adam H.). Congratulations!

CogAT & ITBS Standardized tests
Chandler Creek Elementary will
administer the CogAT & ITBS Standardized tests to all second
grade students the first two weeks in November. The CogAT
testing will be November 2-4 & ITBS testing will be November
8-9.
This is a reminder to parents that we need your cooperation
so that students will perform to the best of their ability.
Please see that your child gets plenty of rest on the nights
before these tests.
Please see that your child eats a nourishing breakfast on
the mornings of these tests.
Please make every effort to have your child in school and on
time.
Please see that your child brings to school at least two #2
pencils. They are required for marking test answer sheets.

Scholastic Book Fair
The Scholastic Book Fair is coming to
Chandler Creek. This will be the only Book Fair for
this school year. The event will be held in the media
center the week of November 7th-11th, and it will coincide
with Grandparents Week. Please invite your
grandparents to come eat with your child that week.

Student Council
Campaigning has started for the students that are interested in becoming Student Council Members. The students have created posters that are up in the halls and will give speeches on October 12th in the theater. Voting will be held right after the speeches. Pumpkin Decorating contest
It is time for the annual Pumpkin
Decorating Contest. If you wish to participate just decorate a pumpkin at home as your
favorite book character
and bring it to the library on
Friday, October 28th, first thing in the morning. Pumpkins
must be picked up that same afternoon before dismissal.
Judges will choose the 3 best pumpkins for the school.
Prizes will be awarded to the winners.

Fall Festival
Chandler Creek held its Fall Festival
on Friday, September 30th. Everyone had a great time. There
was food, games, and lots of fun had by all. There were a
lot of children that had their faces, hair and nails painted
and some that got tattoos. The students enjoyed
dunking Mrs. Smoke in the Dunk Tank.

Summer Reading Celebration

Congratulations

popcorn party. Every

PTA Open House will be held on Monday, September 12th. PTA is giving Free Hot Dog Plates to the first 500 people, after that the cost is $2 a plate while supplies last. The PTA meeting will begin at 6:30 with samples for the Fall Fundraiser on display.
