Parental Involvement Policy for Robert E. Cashion
Elementary School
The administrators and
staff at Robert E. Cashion Elementary School strongly believe that school serves
as the hub of the community. The staff definitely believes that the strength of
the school is enhanced when a nurturing and cooperative environment occurs
between home, school and community. We realize that parents are the child’s
first teachers. The relationship between home and school is of utmost
importance. There must be reciprocal support of these two major institutions in
each child’s life. We need and desire to have our Robert E. Cashion parents
actively partner with us in the social and educational process of our students.
To this end we pledge our support to students, parents and community to use the
strategies listed below to implement our first year parental involvement policy
for the new Robert E. Cashion Elementary School.
- Robert E. Cashion
Elementary School staff will work closely with the district Title I office to
see that the school involves parents in the development of the parental
involvement policy.
- Robert E.
Cashion Elementary School
staff will gather data, provide materials, and training to help promote
effective parent involvement.
- Cashion Elementary School
will provide social work services for students and parents to assist with
home-school connection.
- The school will work
with the PTA, SIC, community agencies, and businesses to increase parent
participation in the school processes.
- The school will work
with the district officials to implement special district programs, such as,
Adult Education, parenting classes, early childhood development programs, 4K
programs, Parents as Teachers Programs and other Family Literacy programs.
- The Cashion School
Parent Advisory Council will provide input and feedback for the district
- Robert E. Cashion staff
will inform parents of all school and parent programs, meetings and activities
and keep records of attendance and involvement.
- The school will provide
opportunities for the participation of parents with limited English
proficiency, parents with disabilities, and parents of migratory children,
including providing information and school reports in easy to understand
language.
- We will provide all
parents of participating Title I students access to the parental involvement
policy near the beginning of the school year.
- The staff will provide
all parents of students in Title I schools information about their right to
know the qualifications and status of the teachers, paraprofessionals and
substitutes who work with their students. They will be notified of any who do
not meet highly qualified criteria as legislated in the No Child Left Behind
law.
- We will solicit parental
input and feedback for revisions or improvements to the local school’s
School-Parent-Student Compact.
- The school will secure
100% of parents’ signatures on the Robert. E. Cashion School-Parent-Student
Compact.
- Students and parents
will be encouraged to review homework daily, Monday through Thursday.
- Students in grades two
through five will be provided with Assignment Notebooks to use between home
and school for daily communication regarding behavioral and academic success.
These will further enhance organizational skills, setting goals, and self
assessment skills of the students.
- All Cashion families
will receive weekly Monday Memos to inform parents of instructional
objectives, skills of study, school news, upcoming events, deadlines for
projects, etc.
- The school will offer
district required mid-term progress reports and quarterly Report Cards to
inform parents of the academic success of their children.
- We will solicit 100%
parent-teacher conferences for the first quarter of school. Encourage all
parents to attend third quarter conferences and schedule others as needed or
requested.
- Parents will receive
feedback on all major student assessments, and standardized test results.
- Parents are encouraged
to visit the school when various events are held that afford those
opportunities. Children are proud when they see their parent participate at
the school or assist at home with school projects.
- The school will solicit
parents as volunteers or to serve on committees for their input into decisions
about the school and school programs.
- We will schedule
requested parent visits and observations of classroom programs and
activities. These need to be pre-scheduled with the teacher. We ask parents
not to bring younger siblings into the classroom and to limit classroom visits
to one hour. We need to keep distractions of the learning process to a
minimum.
- We will encourage
parents to log reading times and numbers of books read with their children at
home.
- Robert E. Cashion Staff
will solicit parent signatures as documentation of attendance at school
programs, activities, conferences, meetings, training workshops and
in-services.
- Parents will be informed
through various communications about the school and its programs and their
children and their academic progress; such as, Monday Memos, Principal’s
Newsletter, Assignment Notebooks, Home School Tip Sheets, Volunteer
Breakfast and Volunteer Workshops, Open House, Back to School Night, etc.
- Robert E. Cashion
Elementary will afford numerous opportunities for parents to visit the school
that are fun and educational; such as, Quarterly Awards Days, Breakfast for
Dads, Goodies for Grands, Muffins for Moms, School-wide Picnic, Field Days,
Fundraiser Festivals, Math and Science Night, International Festival, 5th
Grade Day, PTA Events, and Parenting Workshops.
