PrincipalMrs. Shirley Chapman I am a native South Carolinian, having spent the majority of my life in Greenville. I graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Biology, and a Master’s Degree in Administration and Supervision from Clemson University. I began my teaching career at Berea High School during the volunteer integration era. I subsequently taught at two middle schools- Lakeview and Monaview. I later served in the capacity of assistant principal at Hillcrest Middle, Greenville Middle and Buena Vista Elementary Schools. In 1988, I was appointed principal of Simpsonville Elementary School where I enjoyed eleven year tenure. In 1999, I was named principal at Hughes Academy where I remained for five years. In May 2004, I was appointed principal of another wonderful school, Robert E. Cashion Elementary School. I believe that children should to be educated in a positive environment where all stakeholders are working together as a team to ensure success for every child. My philosophy has been summarized in the slogan “Positive + Teamwork = Success” in every school in which I have been associated. I also believe that we, as educators, must continue to learn in order to better meet the needs of the students we now serve. Beyond school life, I am dedicated to my husband, two adult children, and two precious grandsons, Cameron and Christian. I enjoy reading, painting, solving crossword puzzles, and traveling. |
