Help TeenLEAD Spread Christmas
11/10/2008
The Carolina High School TeenLEAD Group will collect various items for women and men in the Bryan Psychiatric Hospital in Columbia and the Patrick B. Harris Hospital in Anderson. We are collecting items such as bathrobes, sweaters, and games to be distribuated to the paitents in these hospitals. We are asking for boxes in different sizes and Christmas wrapping paper to house our items before we distribute them to patients. The project kickoff date is November 20 through December 15th. Anyone can participate and is asked to drop off all donations to Carolina High School & Academy. The reason for this project is because some patients treatment can vary from short term inpatient care to long term hospitalization. We would like to be able to provide them with gifts during the holiday season. The ages range from 18 to 64. Help us be a blessing to somebody else.
CHS "Pace 4 Peace"
11/6/2008
IN the depths of, northern, The Republic of Uganda, Africa thousands of people are being affected by the brutality and attacks of a rebel group known as the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA). This news has yet to reach great attention in America’s youth; Carolina High School & Academy’s Student Government Association is plenty aware and they want to share this information with our community.
Jacqueline Gault, Senior Class Vice President, and Rafael “Junior” Alcantar, Student Body President want to raise awareness among their school's community here in Greenville and the surrounding area. On November 14, 2008 they have a night planned to educate our community on this matter. The senior class leadership plans the evening to be a profound look at the tragedy in Uganda via power point presentation and immediately after will conduct their “Pace 4 Peace.”
This will consist of students and adults from our community walking around the school’s track by candle-light in solemn reverence with a loudspeaker presentation of the voices of Uganda (children speaking). This is only the jumpstart event. In the spring, the senior class leadership has invited Invisible Children to present more details and how the community can help as an extension of our Pace 4 Peace.
During the “Pace 4 Peace” bracelets will be on sale as a way to fund money to send back to INVISIBLE CHILDREN INC. Another way to raise money and awareness is “Change 4 Change”. The Senior class will place glass jars with the logo “CHANGE 4 CHANGE” inside local businesses in hopes to collect donations for this very worthy cause. Jacqueline Gault suggests that, “Any money can make a difference.” “Schools 4 Schools” also allows them to have a drive for books and send them back to Uganda. Junior says “In America we are blessed because we have books laying around that we never read and these kids pretty much have nothing.” The date for the book drive is TBA. The SGA@CHS keeps a updated webpage, please go to Ms. Carmel's page and follow the links for updates and detail regarding Pace 4 Peace. See you November 14, 2008, 7:00pm, @ Carolina.
