Clubs and Organizations

Art Club
The Art Club is open to all students, 6th through 8th grades; enrollment in art classes is not mandatory. Twice monthly students work on small individual projects, decorate and assist with school projects as needed, and celebrate the expression of art.

BETA Club
The National Junior Beta Club is an organization that recognizes high scholastic achievement. Membership is open to sixth, seventh and eighth graders who have achieved a minimum of a 3.7 grade point average (GPA). Members of the Beta Club must maintain at least a 3.7 GPA and participate in two charitable fundraisers—one in the fall and one in the spring. This service club encourages effort, achievement, and strong character qualities while promoting positive citizenship in the school and the community.

Book Club
Students in grades 6-8 are encouraged to join the Book Club. Members read a student-chosen book monthly and discuss ideas and elements of that selection. Students are responsible for providing their own text to read each month.

Chess Club
BMS Chess Club is a social, fun club for sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students. Students are expected to have good behavior and a grade average of “C” to participate. The Chess Club has players of all levels—beginner, novice, intermediate, and advanced. Students are expected to have pre-arranged transportation home after each meeting and to contribute a small donation for drinks and snacks throughout the academic year. Parental permission is required to participate.

Computer, Automation, and Robotics Club (CAR)
Sixth through eighth grade students may participate in CAR Club. No prerequisites are needed. Meeting weekly after school, members discover many of the exciting facets of computergenerated programs and their capabilities.

Math Counts
Meeting from mid-September through February, Math Counts is an after school activity for students who enjoy math. Problem solving is presented in new and different ways. Students work individually and in groups. Some members qualify to compete with teams from all over the upstate in February.

Robotics Team
This competitive team is open to eighth graders and selected seventh graders through an application and teacher recommendation process. After much preparation and practice, this team competes in the First Lego League Competitions.

Spanish Club
Eighth grade students may join the Spanish Club to learn more about Spanish and Latin American cultures. Meeting twice a month during second semester, members continue their immersion into the culture by experiencing authentic cuisine, recreation, holiday celebrations, and films and by considering global issues.

Student Council
The Student Council exists at Bryson Middle School in order to provide the student body with proper representation in school-governing matters. A candidate for Student Council office cannot have a record of discipline problems. To remain on the council, members must maintain a "C" average or higher in all subjects and receive no referrals. Student Council sponsors events throughout the year which contribute to community and school.

Dances

The Student Council holds school-sponsored dances. Only Bryson Middle students may attend these dances. Dances normally last from 3:15-4:45 p.m. The end-of-the-year dance for 8th graders lasts from 7:00-10:00 p.m. Students must be picked up immediately after the dance in order to be allowed to attend future dances. For safety reasons, students must have ID badge (not temporary) to get in the dance. COST IS $3.00. Check the school calendar for dates.

Field Trips

Field trips are an extension of classroom instruction. All school rules and policies apply to students on a field trip. Students are responsible for work missed during field trips. Students may attend a field trip only if the custodial parent has supplied the school with written permission and other information pertinent to the trip. All students are expected to go on field trips.

Sports

Sports offered at BMS include volleyball, basketball, softball, baseball, soccer. Seventh and eighth grade students are eligible to participate in middle school sports. Students who meet the eligibility requirements are encouraged to participate. Students must pass all courses in order to play.
