The following Air Force Junior ROTC Cadets earned the Outstanding Cadet Ribbon for their accomplishments and hard work 1st semester: Marc Western, 1st year cadet, Cody Edwards, 2nd year cadet, Rebecca Pace, 3rd year cadet, and Edward Feher, 4th year cadet.  At each level, these cadets demonstrated commitment to excellence and determination to improve the cadet corps, school and community.  Please congratulate them on a job well done!

Spring Open House Drop-In

Please mark your calendar for the Spring Open House Drop-In on Wednesday, February 15, 2012, from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm.  Parents will have the opportunity to pick up their student’s progress report and visit their student’s teachers.  On Thursday, February 16, from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm, parents may come in and pick up progress reports.  However, teachers will not be available.  If these times do not work with your schedule, your student will receive  their progress report on Friday, February 17 during 1st  period.

Prom

Any Junior wanting to help with the Prom, there will be a meeting this Friday in Mrs. Miller's room (D118) at 8:15.

 

Emerging Public Leaders

Emerging Public Leaders (epl), sponsored by the Richard W. Riley Institute of Government, Politics and Public Leadership, is a service-oriented leadership program offered to rising seniors.  The program is free of charge to all students selected to participate.   More information and applications are available on-line at riley.furman.edu or call the Institute at 864-294-3546 to request an application packet.   Applications are due April 2, 2012. 

Claflin University Upward Bound Program

Claflin University Upward Bound program, also known as PRISM (Pursuing Rewards in Science and Mathematics) is now accepting applications for students for their 6-week residential summer program.  Applicants should be currently enrolled in 9th, 10th or 11th grade and should have completed Algebra I, one year of high school science, should have an interest in and aptitude for science and mathematics, and must meet income guidelines and/or be a first generation college student.  Applications are available in Guidance office and are due by March 7th

Newspaper Staff
Anyone interested in joining the newspaper staff next year needs to see Coach Wilson in Room D105 for an application. You must have teacher approval to join. Applications are due Wednesday, February 15.

Walking Shadows Improv
Valentine's Day has a lot of pressure. Improv does not! Join Walking Shadows Improv for the Post-Valentine's Day Heart-Ache Free Improv Show on Friday, February 17 at 7:30 pm. Cost is $5 and proceeds go to benefit the Theatre at the Ridge production of Our Town.

FFA Meeting
There will be a mandatory FFA Meeting in Mrs. Wright's room E102 on Friday at 8:00 am to discuss Farm Day.

Freshman Fundraiser:

Hoodies and Sweatpants Sale:  Beginning Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012 and going until Friday, Feb. 17, 2012 students will be able to purchase Solid Color Super 10 Hoodies for $30.00 in the following colors:  surf blue, washed blue, red, purple, shocking pink, alien, black, grey, and charcoal,  Tie Dyed Hoodies for $35.00 in the following colors:  spider baby blue, spider red, spider orange, spider black, spider purple, spider lime, and reactive rainbow and Solid Color Super 10 Pocket Sweatpants for $30.00 in the following colors:  charcoal, red, black, and grey.  Please see Mrs. Hendley in room B117 or Ms. Reddick in room H106 if you would like to purchase these items; please come by before or after school to place your orders.

Detention and Make-ups
Detention for the week of February 6 will be with Mr. Farmer in room A117 and make-ups on Tuesday and Thursday with Ms. Reddick in room A115. Detention will not be held on Wednesday.

 PRACTICE AT BLUE RIDGE WILL BE AT 10 AM ** PRACTICE AT TIMMONS ARENA WILL BE AT 3:30 PM **

JUNE 1 GRADUATION!!! – AT TIMMONS ARENA 3:30pm.

** If you miss either graduation rehearsal, you will not be allowed to participate in the graduation ceremony, as per District Policy.**

Attention Seniors:

It's time to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid again! This is a reminder that College Goal South Carolina is coming up on February 18, 2012. Please visit http://www.collegegoalsc.org/index.php for more information about the sites and the times for the event.   Greenville Technical College will be the site for our area.  This is a free opportunity for you and your parents to get help completing for FAFSA.

Relay for Life Pageant and Fundraisers
The 6th annual "Pageant with a Purpose" will be held in the BRHS auditorium March 3rd at 6:00 pm. Cost is $5, free to children 3 and under. Registration packets are available from Mrs. Thornton and are due no later than February 22nd. Air Force Junior ROTC and National Honor Society members are now selling Greeting Spring candy and snack items for $5 each item. Orders will be back before Spring Break. New style Relay for Life t-shirts are also being sold. See the front board for colors and designs. All profits from the pageant, candy and t-shirt sales will go to the American Society. Please support this worthwhile cause in memory or honor of someone you know who has suffered from this terrible disease.

Valegrams
Strings students will be selling Valegrams during lunch and in the mornings for $1.00 each. Buy a valegram for your favorite valentine and to support the strings program.

Attention Seniors and Sorta Seniors:

Cap and Gown pictures will be made at BRHS on Feb. 23, 2012 in the auditorium.  If you wish to have your picture taken, please sign-up outside Mrs. Hendley's room (B117) beginning February 6, 2012.  When you sign-up, information will be provided in regards to what you should bring for your photos and how much they will cost.

PTSA News

PTSA is looking for about 15 to 20 parents, grandparents or any family member(s) to help provide a dessert for the teachers on Wednesday, February 15th for the Spring Open House Drop-In.  These desserts can be homemade or store bought. If you can help out, please contact the main office/Sherry Thornton at 355-1819 by Friday, February 11.  Desserts would need to be at the school on Wednesday, February 15th by the end of the school day.

Coaches 4 Character

The next Coaches 4 Character program that will be on Thursday, February 16th - 7 pm at the Redemption World Outreach Center.  Joan Cronan, University of Tennessee Lady Vols Director of Athletics will be the guest speaker. Admission is FREE to students - 12th grade and under.  Admission for accompanying Adults is $5. 

ALL STUDENTS

Beginning of 2nd semester we will no longer accept doctor's notes through fax or email.  All doctor's notes must be brought by the student within 3 days and given to attendance.
