Ms. Lisa Wofford has achieved National Board Certification as a teacher of Health Science.  As part of the process, she completed a portfolio that included samples of student work, assignments, video recordings and a thorough analysis of her classroom teaching.  Ms. Wofford teaches Sports Medicine and Anatomy at J. Harley Bonds Career Center.  She served as President of the SC Health Science Educators Association.  Ms. Wofford has been instrumental in expanding the classes offered in the Health Science department. 


News Briefs J. Harley Bonds Career Center

Students from J. Harley Bonds Career Center attended the state SkillsUSA annual meeting and competitions at the Carolina First Center in Greenville on April 3 and 4.  The following students placed in the student competitions:  Ty Welch, 3rd place Culinary Arts;  Kathryn Good, 1st place Food and Beverage;  Zach Underwood, 3rd place Computer Maintenance Technology;  Cole Reini, 1st place Plumbing;  Jordan Snelling, Kyle Varnadore, Ryan Young, 1st place Welding Fabrication;  Jake Cannon, Derek Dempsey, Canaan Manz, Daniel Teems, 1st place Teamworks;  James Aiken, 1st place, Blake Magnus, 2nd place, Extemporaneous Speaking;  Brittany Gambrell, 1st place Job Demo;  Lindsey Campbell, 3rd place Job Interview. 

All first place winners will travel to Kansas City, Missouri in June to compete at the national SkillsUSA convention.   


Tanner Foster was elected President of the SC SkillsUSA chapter and Henry Davis, a first year Culinary Arts student, was elected Treasurer of the state association.  Both Tanner and Henry will be involved with the running of the state organization next year.  Tanner, a first year Welding student, plans to compete for a national office at the national SkillsUSA convention.
