What is the School
Improvement Council?
The School Improvement Council (SIC) serves as an advisory committee to Dr.
Griffin and the Blythe faculty. Unlike the PTA, the SIC is mandated by law
to exist in every public school in South Carolina.
The SIC plays a key role in the education of Blythe's children, bringing
together parents, educators and community stakeholders to collaborate
on the
improvement of our school.
What does the
School Improvement Council do?
Councils work collaboratively with the
school to:
-
develop
and implement a five-year school improvement plan (school renewal plan)
-
monitor
and evaluate success in reaching the plan's goals and objectives
-
write
an annual report to parents about the progress of the plan
-
assist
the principal in writing the narrative for the School Report Card
-
advise
on the use of school incentive awards
-
provide
assistance as requested by the principal.
School Improvement Councils do not have
any of the powers and duties reserved by the local school board.
The
School Improvement Council utilizes subcommittees to research and implement
various programs to support academic growth and progress. The SIC goals
during this school year are focusing on:
-
Motivating and recognizing the efforts of those students
who have not experienced academic success.
-
Providing high-interest PACT practice opportunities for
all students.
-
Increasing community awareness of the Foreign Language
Program.
-
Communicating with stakeholders through the annual Report
to the Community.
Major SIC projects for this school year are Foreign Language Education
Advancement, Outdoor Beautification, Safety First, and
Educational Enhancement.
