Illuminated Manuscripts

Fourth grade artist learned about illuminated manuscripts of the Middle Ages and how books were created completely by hand.  Fourth grade artists viewed images from the Book of Kells and The Book of Hours and identified design features such as: intricately designed capital letters, miniature illustrations and borders.  These artists "illuminated" a famous quote of their choice.  The letters and illustration were drawn, the border printed from a handmade Styrofoam stamp and a tiny bit of gold or silver paint was added at the end.
