MEDICATIONS
Greenville County School District policy requires that all
medication, whether prescription and over-the-counter, have the proper
medication forms completed before the medication can be given at school.

1. All medication must
be delivered to the school by the student’s parent or legal guardian.
Students are prohibited from carrying any medication (including Tylenol,
ibuprofen, cough drops, Tums) of any kind without written permission
from the physician and the parent.
2. Absolutely no
medication can be given without written parental permission.
3. The school nurse may
not administer the 1st dose of any medication. (Students
should be monitored by the parent for possible side effects following
the first dose)
4. School nurses may
only administer medications that are FDA approved.
5. All medication must
be in the original container. No medications will be given from zip lock
bags or envelopes.
6. No medication that
contains aspirin can be given without a doctor’s authorization. (Pepto
Bismal, Excedrin, etc.)
7. No medication is
supplied by the school. The health room does not provide Chapstick,
calamine lotion, antibiotic ointment, contact solution, or Orajel for
students. If a student requires these items, they must be supplied by
and brought to the health room by the parent and the appropriate forms
must be completed.
CONTACTING PARENTS
If your child comes to
the health room and needs to go home we must contact a parent or legal
guardian. We rely on the Student Information form that was sent home in
the first day packet for this information. Please make sure your form is
current and up to date. Only individuals on this form may pick up your
student. You must notify the guidance department to change or add any
information.
Please note that
ANYONE, including parents, must show a picture ID to pick your student
up. Please understand this is for your child’s protection.
IMMUNIZATIONS
All students must have
a South Carolina Certificate of immunization or a South Carolina
Religious Exemption on file at school.
If a student comes from out of state, a 30 day
Special Exemptions will be given to the student to allow time for
immunization records to be obtained. After 30 days, per South Carolina
law, the student will be unable to attend school without the proper
certificate.

HEALTH SERVICES
The health room cannot supply chapstick, contact
solution, cough drops or ace bandages. We are unable to wrap injuries
that have occurred at home or after school with the exception of an
injury requiring emergency treatment.
Vision Screening
All 7th grade students will be screened
for distant vision. If he does not pass this screening, you will be
notified that your child needs further evaluation by a physician or
optometrist. If you receive this notification, please have the letter
completed and return it to the school nurse.
