 Beck's Newest American Citizen

Congratulations to Mrs. Lucy Gomez who became a United States Citizen on February 22, 2008. Lucy said that the ceremony took place at BMW and there were about 100 people taking part. She said that it was a very festive occasion with many patriotic decorations. There were many public officials in attendance, including Mayor Knox White. During the ceremony each applicant took a pledge of citizenship and they received a certificate when their name was announced.

In order to become a U.S. citizen you must live in the United States for at least 5 years, you must pass a citizenship test, you must be able to speak English and learn about U.S. History and how the U.S. government operates and finally you must go through an interview process where you would explain why you want to become a citizen.

While Lucy loves her native country, Colombia, she is very proud to now be an American - it is her dream come true! Now Lucy can vote and can apply for an American passport. Be sure to congratulate her on this wonderful accomplishment!

You can learn more by visiting the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Services website.
