100th Day 2010 (58 images)
BCES students celebrated the 100th Day of School with a special project: each grade level was challenged to bring 100 food items that were donated to Meals on Wheels. -There was a tremendous amount of food collected, approximately 1,100 cans! The food collected by Brushy Creek Elementary School children will be used in making the over 300 meals a day served to Meals on Wheels clients in the Greater Greer area, which includes the Greer, Taylors, Blue Ridge, Duncan/Lyman/Wellford and Reidville areas. Annually, Greer Community Ministries provide a nutritious meal (including special ones for diabetics) to over 90,000 individuals. The food donation will also be used in the cooking of meals for Senior Diners each day. There are approximately 25 seniors who come to Greer Community Ministries each day for a program, lunch and fellowship. They also use the food in a Food Pantry, which provides emergency assistance to people in the community. They help over 6,500 individuals in the Greater Greer area with food and clothing assistance each year.
Other 100th Day activities included:
- students dressing as if they were 100 years old
- students wearing 100 items
- students having 100 friends sign their t-shirts
- lots of math activities -- counting to 100, measuring, using groups of 10 to get to 100, and graphing the results of the food drive
