Students at A.J. Whittenberg Elementary are taste testing a new lunch option for Greenville County Schools. Students tested a “Make Your Macaroni and Cheese Bar.”

Students were given the choice of two types of macaroni and cheese, original or Mexican style with green chilies. Meat toppings include beef taco, grilled chicken, meatballs and diced ham. Vegetable options are broccoli, corn, cooked carrots and pinto beans. All entrees are served with a side of fruit and low fat milk.

Greenville County Schools Culinary Specialist Ron Jones says he got the idea from a school district in Colorado.  He says if the taste test at Whittenberg is a success, the Mac and Cheese bar will be on all elementary school lunch menus within two months.
